Do you ever feel like you start things with so much excitement… only to lose steam along the way?
Like you're drawn to what feels fun, light, and energizing—but struggle to stay when things get hard, slow, or just not as exciting anymore?
If that sounds familiar, this episode is for you 💛
This week on the Nourished to Bloom podcast, we're continuing our Living Stones series—exploring how God uniquely designed each of us to help build His Kingdom.
Because not every stone in a structure serves the same purpose…
🪨 Some carry weight ✨ Some bring light 🌿 Some create connection
And today, we're diving into the sanguine temperament—the light-filled stone.
The one that brings warmth, joy, and life into the spaces it enters.
If you're someone who:
- Loves people and connection
- Brings energy into a room
- Feels things deeply and lives in the moment
This might be you.
And your joy?
👉 It's not "too much." 👉 It's a gift.
But when that gift isn't grounded, it can leave you feeling scattered, inconsistent, or always chasing what's next.
In this episode, we explore how to move from fleeting excitement to lasting joy—by rooting your temperament in truth, stability, and God's design.
🌿 What we're unpacking together:
✨ What it means to be a light-filled stone—bringing joy, connection, and life into God's Kingdom
💛 Why your energy, enthusiasm, and relational nature are intentional gifts
⚠️ The shadow side: distraction, inconsistency, and avoiding what feels hard or uncomfortable
🧠 Coaching shifts to move from chasing feelings → building consistency
🌱 How to stay rooted even when things aren't exciting—and why that's where real growth happens
🙏 What it looks like to let your joy be anchored in God, not just your circumstances
✨ Try this this week:
If this resonates, here are a few simple ways to begin living this out:
• Finish one thing you've already started • Sit in stillness (even just a few minutes a day) • Notice when you want to move on just because something isn't "fun" anymore
And gently bring yourself back.
💛 A prayer for this week:
"Lord, help me to stay rooted in You. Teach me to find joy not just in what feels good, but in what is good. Give me the strength to remain, grow, and go deeper with You."
If you've been feeling scattered, restless, or like you're constantly moving from one thing to the next…
This episode is your invitation to something deeper:
👉 Not less joy—but lasting joy. 👉 Not less energy—but anchored energy. 👉 Not less freedom—but rooted freedom.
💌 Ready to go deeper?
If you're recognizing these patterns and want support in creating consistency, clarity, and peace in your life, I'd love to walk with you.

[00:00:00] Do you ever have these big ideas or dreams and like you can see the vision, you can see what it would look like when this thing was completed and you start it with so much excitement. But then somewhere along the way you lose steam, maybe because you're burnt out or maybe because you don't know what the next step to take is on creating this vision or this dream.
[00:00:23] Like you're chasing this idea and this vision because it feels fun and light and energizing and you can just see the beauty that's going to come from it. [00:02:57] So happy to be spending some time here with you this week and helping you grow your health, your identity, and living your everyday life in a more Christ-centered way. So we are on week two of our Living Stone series, and I'm excited for today's conversation. Last week we talked about the choleric, that foundation stone, the one that builds, leads, and carries weight. But today we're going to talk about a different kind of stone.
[00:03:26] Because a building isn't just meant to stand, it's meant to feel alive, to make you feel something. And that's what we're going to talk about today when we talk about the sanguine temperament. And I just so happen to be primarily a sanguine, so I feel like I live this podcast episode on a day-to-day basis. But if you picture this beautiful home or cathedral, there are parts of these structures that draw you in.
[00:03:56] Maybe a specific design element. Maybe it's the windows that are letting that light shine through. It makes that space feel warm and inviting, joyful, comforting, and alive. It might be the windows. It might be stones placed where people gather, like a particular design element. Maybe it's the spaces that feel welcoming and full of life. And these are those light-filled stones.
[00:04:25] And if you happen to be a sanguine temperament, you might realize that this is you. Because as a sanguine, you are the connector, the encourager, the bringer of joy. You have big visions. You just want to bring this beauty to the people around you. So you're the one who makes people feel seen, brings energy into a room, one that creates connection and belonging for those that are around you.
[00:04:54] And so you don't just exist in this structure, but you really kind of make this structure feel like home. And can I just say that this is really such a needed gift? Because you bring joy and warmth and energy and relationship to the things that you are doing. And so you're often the reason that people stay, that people feel comfortable, meaning that they feel known, seen, and heard when they're around you.
[00:05:23] You might find that it's easy for people to open up to you. Because you bring life into spaces that could not otherwise feel cold or rigid or uninviting. But like every temperament, there's a tension, kind of a downside. We called it a shadow side last week. Because when your gift is bringing energy and connection, it can be hard for you to stay and make things feel like home.
[00:05:49] When maybe it gets a little boring, things get hard. You're not sure what the next right step is on this vision or this dream or this idea that you're building. If things feel uncomfortable, like there's tension in that setting. Or when things don't feel as exciting anymore. And so this can show up as starting things but not finishing them. I'm 100% guilty of this.
[00:06:15] I have all these projects, all these ideas, and can see the end product. Can sometimes start it but not know how to get from that point A to point B. So it results in me jumping from one idea to the next instead of being consistent and just trying to keep building that one thing. It shows up as avoiding things that feel heavy or slow.
[00:06:37] Sometimes as sanguines, we just want to sweep kind of the sorrow, the uncomfortableness under the rug and just like move people forward back to joy because we don't particularly like to live in a glass half empty kind of situation. You also might notice that making decisions come from basing them on how you feel in the moment.
[00:07:05] And while your feelings are not necessarily bad, we talk about our feelings being those clues from the Lord, those clues that we need to address something. Sometimes our feelings can feel very much like the truth, but underneath they aren't the truth. And so we can let our feelings persuade us to do things that maybe are not the best for us when we're making decisions based off of how we feel in the moment.
[00:07:33] And so kind of underneath it all, there's often this thought that pops up of if this isn't fun, if I'm not enjoying this, if I'm not kind of getting what I want out of it, then it's not worth it. And so I want to pause here because this is where coaching comes in. So what if that thought that this isn't exciting anymore isn't actually what's keeping you stuck? Because here's the truth that's underneath that.
[00:08:01] Things that I've had to realize and kind of face reality and when, you know, having this thing when primary temperament is that growth isn't always exciting. And my faith isn't always emotionally moving. And my purpose isn't always fun in the moment.
[00:08:25] And so growth and the shift for the sanguine to be able to kind of overcome these moments where we have these thoughts of like, why am I doing this? This isn't fun. It's from the shift comes from seeking stimulation, meaning stimulation, like you're just doing something to do something, but shifting from seeking stimulation to choosing stability and
[00:08:53] shifting from following our feelings to creating consistency. And so I have noticed a lot more peace, a lot more projects getting finished, a lot more kind of clarity come when I operate and choose that stability and try to create some consistency because those things can be fun also, because you're not jumping from one thing to the next, to the next, and then feeling like you never finish anything.
[00:09:22] So creating that consistency and choosing stability brings more peace and more freedom and more joy because you are not like ending up in overwhelm or, you know, you're not beating yourself up because you just get to show up in the way that you want to. I actually was in a coaching session with someone before this, and we were talking about discernment
[00:09:49] and an opportunity that's coming up for a new job and just understanding, you know, is this the right fit and kind of just kind of going through that discernment process. And the Holy Spirit was working in that session because kind of out of no, not out of nowhere, but we've talked with this particular client. We've talked a lot about surrender and a lot about agency and identity and who you are,
[00:10:18] like having that deep rooted identity. And what we talked about was going through this process, being detached from the outcome, not trying to manipulate an outcome, even if it's something that you really want. And when we detach from the outcome, when we surrender the outcome to the Lord, it allows you to show up authentically and it allows you to have, you know, that agency and that identity. So you're operating from that place of being your authentic self.
[00:10:47] And so you show up differently when you're not trying to manipulate the outcome. And that was even just a lesson learned for me in that session of when I look at things and if I'm only trying to operate from things that make me happy or bring me joy, then I don't really build that consistency and that stability. And when I'm trying to, you know, create this certain outcome, I manipulate the situation.
[00:11:15] And so then I don't show up as my true self. And then it feels like 10 times harder in that moment. I don't show up the way that I want to. So it's just interesting when we when we have these opportunities for growth within our temperaments that we can still hold on to kind of the root and that way that God wired us. But there's ways that we can grow in these temperaments that allows us to continue to be that true and authentic self.
[00:11:43] So when we go back to that image of being a living stone as a sanguine, your role isn't just to bring light. We can think about it as it's this idea to stay long enough for that light to transform the space because light that flickers in and out. It doesn't change much. Things aren't revealed. People don't get to see kind of the true beauty behind it. But light that remains can change everything.
[00:12:08] So if you're a sanguine and you are maybe struggling with some of the sanguine tendencies, here are a few things that you can try this week. Finish one thing that you've already started. Now that might be challenging, but I'm going to challenge myself to do that too. Finish one thing that you've already started. The second is to sit in stillness for a few minutes each day, even if it feels uncomfortable.
[00:12:34] We as sanguines don't have to always be on. Sometimes being on is one of the most exhausting things that you can do. It's draining to feel like you always have to bring energy into every room that you are in. So if we can learn to sit in stillness a few minutes each day, it reminds us that we are not the source of all energy in every conversation, in every situation.
[00:13:02] But that stillness allows us to recharge and allows us to point ourselves back to the Lord and letting Him kind of guide the interactions that we have on a daily basis. And then the third one is notice when you want to leave something, like when you want to stop doing something just because it's not exciting anymore.
[00:13:24] And just notice that or go back and even think about times in the past where you've started something and you were making good progress, but then all of a sudden it just didn't seem quite as exciting anymore. And just spend some time reflecting on that. Why do you think you left it? Is there a way to bring joy and excitement back to something that you've left in the past? And then just kind of gently challenge some of those thoughts that you have.
[00:13:52] Because spiritually, as a sanguine, growth comes through perseverance. I have had a love-hate, mostly hate relationship with that word. I do not like the word perseverance. But yet I know as a saying when it's one of the best virtues that I can grow in. As well as discipline. Growth is going to come through discipline. Being able to show up consistently day in and day out, even when it might not feel so much fun.
[00:14:22] And then depth, right? Growth coming through depth. Getting deeper than just at surface level. And I know that these things don't always sound fun. Trust me, I go through it on a daily basis. But I have to remind myself that these lead to something so much deeper than just temporary excitement. It really leads to that lasting joy. And your joy is not the problem. Your energy is not too much.
[00:14:51] And that desire that you have for connection that fuels most of the things that you want to do, that is a gift from God. But we have to root it in Him instead of just our feelings. And when we do, we become a steady encourager. A cheerleader for people who are trying to reach goals in life. And it's one of the most fun things you can do to be somebody else's cheerleader. It allows you to be a more consistent friend.
[00:15:20] And you get to show up as a woman who brings both joy and depth into all of her connections. So I want to leave you with this. Where is God inviting you to stay instead of move on? And where is He asking you to go deeper instead of just keeping things light? Be that light-filled stone. Let the Lord use you to bring that depth, to bring that joy, that connection,
[00:15:46] to allow you to be that place of home for those around you. If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear from you. You can always reach out. Send me an email. It's Kara at KaraTrocta.com. And if you're starting to recognize these patterns where you feel pulled toward what's easy or exciting, but struggling to stay consistent and growing something that you know is meaningful, this is exactly the work that we do in coaching.
[00:16:13] We take these patterns and help you build rhythms and routines that feel grounded, peaceful, sustainable, and fun. And you can book a free session to talk through some of this through the link that you find in the show description. Next week, we're diving into the melancholic temperament, which is the stone that brings depth, beauty, and meaning to the structure. So if you're someone who thinks deeply, feels deeply, and maybe just overthinks a little,
[00:16:40] you're going to feel very seen in our episode next week. Remember, beauty held is the seed. Beauty shared is the flower. It is your time to bloom. I hope you have a beautiful and blessed week. Take care, and we'll talk soon. Bye!
