Those ropes you thought you'd loosened during Lent… Are they start to tug again just when you feel ready to soar?
Lent ends. Life speeds back up. The structure, intention or motivation fades.
And suddenly those old thoughts and patterns start whispering again:
"I should get back on track…" "I was doing so good…" "I need to do better…"
This week on Nourished to Bloom, we step into that honest, in-between space — the one where real transformation either deepens… or quietly slips back into autopilot.
Because the goal was never a "perfect Lent."
It was freedom.
And the real question now is:
How do we carry that freedom forward?
In this final episode of our 40 Days to Food Freedom series, we unpack what it looks like to live untethered — not perfectly, but intentionally.
Here's what we explore together:
🌱 What Happens After Lent – The tension between wanting lasting change and feeling old habits resurface in everyday life.
🕊️ Freedom = Awareness – Real freedom isn't never struggling again… it's recognizing the rope sooner and choosing differently.
🙌 God in the Everyday Moments – Not just in quiet prayer, but in the car line, the kitchen, the messy, ordinary parts of our day.
🛑 Gentle Awareness Over Willpower – Simple check-in questions that help us stay grounded without slipping into pressure or performance.
💛 You Don't Have to Prove Anything – The Gospel truth that anchors everything: you are already loved.
Because this journey was never about getting it right.
It's about staying close.
🌱 Your Invitation This Week
Instead of asking, "How do I keep this going perfectly?"
Ask:
• Where did I feel pulled today? • Where did I feel free? • How is God inviting me back right now?
When the old patterns show up — and they will — pause.
Not to fix.
To return.
Freedom isn't about never struggling again.
It's about coming back… again and again… with awareness, with compassion, and with God at the center.
We're not starting over.
We're continuing the journey.
Let's keep walking it together.
You were made to bloom. 🌸

00:00:01
So we've spent the last several weeks talking about ropes,
00:00:05
the small strings, those thick cords, these
00:00:08
attachments that are quietly tethering our hearts and
00:00:11
keeping us from flying close to the Lord.
00:00:15
We've spent weeks naming them things like food control,
00:00:19
distraction seeking, emotional comfort,
00:00:23
comparison trap, and performance. And maybe over
00:00:27
these 40 days you've really felt something shift and that is amazing.
00:00:31
Maybe you are finding a little more awareness in your thoughts or
00:00:35
your behaviors, a little more space to invite the
00:00:38
Lord in to your struggles and maybe just
00:00:42
a little more freedom. But as we're entering Holy
00:00:46
Week, we know that Lent is coming to an end. And so really, our question
00:00:49
shifts and it becomes how do we carry this
00:00:53
transformation of heart and mind that we've experienced during our Lenten
00:00:56
journey? How do we carry this forward? Well, that's what we're diving
00:01:00
into today on the Nourish to Bloom podcast. So I hope you'll join me.

00:02:37

00:02:40
thrive. Hey there.
00:02:44
Welcome back to the nourish to Bloom podcast. So happy to be spending some time
00:02:48
here with you this week. And we are entering
00:02:51
Holy Week, and that means that Lent is coming
00:02:56
to an end, and we will be entering the Easter season, which is the
00:02:59
time for rejoicing and
00:03:02
alleluias and just joyous
00:03:06
occasions, right? But can we just take a little second and think about
00:03:10
what we've experienced over the last 40 days as we have
00:03:13
been walking our Lenten journey? Maybe you have
00:03:17
had your own Lenten sacrifices. Maybe you've been following closely here what we've
00:03:21
been doing on our 40 days to food Freedom journey.
00:03:24
And I don't know about you, but when I always get to that Lenten season,
00:03:28
it's kind of a little bit of a
00:03:31
mixed bag, right? A little bit of maybe,
00:03:36
oh, yay, I get to have, like, whatever I gave up for Lent. Maybe you're
00:03:39
experiencing that, or maybe you are
00:03:43
really have had a profound transformation of heart and mind over these
00:03:47
last 40 days. And now you're kind of wondering, like, what.
00:03:50
What happens after Lent? You know, what happens
00:03:54
when we are no longer in this Lenten season? And maybe kind of your
00:03:58
structure here and your intention goes away, because
00:04:01
sometimes when Easter comes, we have that other shift,
00:04:05
right? We kind of give up that being a
00:04:08
Lenten people, that those little sacrifices and those
00:04:12
struggles, and we just kind of go back into that autopilot,
00:04:16
back into old habits and old routines. And it's like all of a
00:04:19
sudden, these patterns that you had
00:04:23
maybe broken or created some space to really think about during
00:04:26
Lent. Our just kind of back in default. You're in that
00:04:30
autopilot, right? And so maybe
00:04:34
you've already felt a little bit of a pull towards those old patterns.
00:04:37
Maybe thoughts of, you know, I don't know,
00:04:41
oh, like I said, I get to have this thing again. Or maybe
00:04:45
you're finding yourself, like, even from the beginning of
00:04:49
Lent to now, you have had, you know, you haven't been able to keep up
00:04:53
with your sacrifice the way that you were in the beginning. And you're like, oh,
00:04:57
I should just get back on track, or I need to be more disciplined, or,
00:05:00
I was doing so good. What happened? And I really just want to
00:05:04
pause and just gently stop you right there.
00:05:08
Because when we have these things pop up, these thoughts and these old
00:05:11
patterns and kind of these default autopilots
00:05:15
pop back up, we need to know and recognize that
00:05:19
that's that rope, that's that tether that's trying to come
00:05:23
back. And it's not like this big obvious way, but
00:05:27
it's really quiet. It's subtle. It's showing up
00:05:30
in those thoughts and in those habits and maybe the feelings of
00:05:34
pressure that you're having. And I think that
00:05:37
this is a really good thing to talk about when it comes to
00:05:41
Lent and that shift into that Easter season,
00:05:45
because I think for many of us, Lent has been so performance
00:05:49
based, right? We think the goal is to do Lent well,
00:05:53
that it has to be kind of that all that all or nothing. Either you're
00:05:57
being really good or you're not. But we really want
00:06:00
to reframe that and look at Lent as a time to grow in
00:06:04
consistency, to be more disciplined.
00:06:09
And the goal was never to do Lent perfectly. It was
00:06:13
never to make mistakes or, heaven forbid, not
00:06:16
be human, because we are. But the goal of these Lenten
00:06:20
sacrifices and what we've been doing during this 40 days to food
00:06:24
Freedom journey was the goal was just
00:06:27
freedom. And I think we can
00:06:31
feel like, okay, we've made progress and we're never going to feel that pull back
00:06:35
again into maybe old patterns of thinking or behaving
00:06:38
or defaults. But that's not true either.
00:06:43
When we've practiced and we've had this transformation of heart and
00:06:47
mind. When we talk about freedom, it's this
00:06:50
ability to be able to recognize these
00:06:54
old patterns popping up sooner.
00:06:57
Like maybe this week you're going to catch yourself standing in the kitchen after
00:07:01
dinner and you're really not hungry. You just had dinner, you were
00:07:05
satisfied, but you've had a long day. It's just been one of those
00:07:08
days. You're tired and you're just
00:07:12
wanting something to bring you some comfort or some peace.
00:07:17
But that growth and that transformation that maybe you've experienced through this journey is
00:07:21
instead of immediately reaching for food or alcohol
00:07:24
or whatever it is, you pause for a second and you
00:07:28
think, wait, what do I actually need right now
00:07:33
in that moment? And then you get to choose.
00:07:37
Maybe it is food. Maybe it is a glass of
00:07:41
wine. But maybe it's not. Maybe it's
00:07:45
a hug from. From your spouse or your children. Maybe it's just
00:07:48
needing five minutes to sit quietly. It's
00:07:52
just what we have transformed, what we've been working on
00:07:56
is Lent is just again, that space to not be
00:07:59
tethered, to let the Lord come into these moments and speak to us
00:08:03
and help us recognize what it is that we need right now
00:08:06
in this moment, and that is freedom.
00:08:11
Or maybe it's going to look like you're getting dressed in the morning and you
00:08:14
catch that old comparison thought creeping in
00:08:18
I wish my body looked like it used to, or
00:08:22
I hate all of my clothes. But instead of spiraling,
00:08:26
you just notice it and you don't let it bring you
00:08:29
down. You don't follow it all the way down to, you know,
00:08:33
completely undoing any progress. Our mind
00:08:37
shifts that you've had. You just see it
00:08:42
and acknowledge, okay, my body doesn't look like it used to
00:08:46
and that's okay. That recognition,
00:08:50
that space, that's that freedom too. And freedom isn't perfection.
00:08:54
It's really more deeply rooted in awareness.
00:08:59
Again, it's that small space between the urge and
00:09:02
wanting to give in to a particular attachment, a particular
00:09:06
passion, and the way you actually
00:09:10
respond. And here's the important
00:09:14
part. You don't create space by trying
00:09:17
harder. It's really about this
00:09:21
Space has been created by staying closer to the Lord.
00:09:26
Because everything we've talked about throughout this series, the letting go of control,
00:09:30
the learning to honor your body, releasing the
00:09:33
comparison, untangling emotional eating, and being able to
00:09:37
step out of performance based culture,
00:09:41
all of that freedom is flowing from
00:09:44
relationship, not willpower.
00:09:49
So when you have those moments when life feels full again, when you
00:09:52
are so overwhelmed and it's going to happen, we all know it does,
00:09:57
it's not really a question of how do I stay on track,
00:10:01
but instead shift it to, okay, Lord, how do I stay close to you?
00:10:06
Close to the Lord in your actual everyday life that you're
00:10:10
living, not just in the quiet prayer
00:10:14
time that you've set aside. That is beautiful. That is a wonderful habit
00:10:18
to have. But we're talking about in those moments where we have had
00:10:21
default patterns of behavior that were not serving
00:10:25
us, but inviting the Lord into the
00:10:29
middle of the mess that you are in. Maybe
00:10:32
it's in the car line and it's just not moving fast enough for
00:10:36
you. Maybe it's you're making dinner and you
00:10:39
spill a whole jar of garlic all over the floor.
00:10:43
True story, Been there. It's very stinky.
00:10:47
Maybe it's while you're folding laundry and gosh darn it, that sock monster
00:10:51
in the dryer got it again. Or maybe
00:10:54
it's just you're feeling overwhelmed by it all and you just don't
00:10:58
even know why.
00:11:02
And can we be honest? Because most of life isn't lived in these, like,
00:11:05
big reflective moments. It's lived in
00:11:09
these kind of in between that everyday
00:11:13
moment, that middle of the mess
00:11:17
and the enemy is so good, y'. All. That's exactly where he tries
00:11:21
to bring that tether back, where he tries to
00:11:24
rope you in where it sneaks back in
00:11:30
when you find yourself scrolling, when you need a break. And it leads down to
00:11:34
that comparison when you're overthinking and you're
00:11:37
worrying at night and you can't get a good night's sleep
00:11:41
when you have that I'll start all over again tomorrow mindset,
00:11:45
or you're feeling that pressure to fix everything all at once.
00:11:50
The enemy's sneaky and he knows how to attack. And if you're
00:11:54
not paying attention to how he is influencing your
00:11:57
thoughts and your emotions and your behaviors, it can
00:12:01
leave you feeling like you are stuck right back where you
00:12:05
started. But the good news is, is that you're
00:12:09
really not. Because now you have tools.
00:12:12
Now you have ways that you can start to see it and
00:12:15
recognize that this tether that is trying
00:12:19
to tie itself again.
00:12:23
And instead of it tightening, you can learn to loosen it
00:12:27
through these tools that we talked about. And so
00:12:31
I want to give you just something really simple that you can carry with you
00:12:35
after Lent. Something pretty practical. It's not this like
00:12:38
long drawn out plan, it's not this huge set of rules, but it's just
00:12:42
really, really about a gentle check in that you can come back to
00:12:47
at any point in time in your day, whether it's at the end of the
00:12:50
day or the beginning of the day or just even in the middle of it.
00:12:54
It's kind of these questions are kind of drawn from
00:12:59
the examine prayers and I think that that's just
00:13:03
beautiful because again, it's that space. It's putting that space between
00:13:07
what's happening and our response to it.
00:13:12
So whatever time of day you find yourself in, just ask, you know,
00:13:16
where did I feel pulled today
00:13:20
and where did I feel free?
00:13:25
Where was I trying to grip so hard to control?
00:13:30
And how was the Lord moving in my life today?
00:13:38
And really that's it. It's so simple, but it's so profound just to
00:13:41
take a few moments to reflect on these things. Because it allows you to
00:13:45
see those patterns, it allows you to recognize this and become and
00:13:49
build that self awareness tool. And really that's
00:13:53
it. It's not fixing, it's not judging, it's not over
00:13:56
analyzing, it's just noticing and being aware.
00:14:01
Because awareness is what really keeps that rope from tightening again to where
00:14:05
you're feeling pulled down to where you're feeling trapped.
00:14:09
And if you happen to find yourself being pulled back into old patterns, this is
00:14:13
where you can do things differently. Not with frustration,
00:14:17
not with that judgment and condemnation of
00:14:21
I can't believe I'm here again. But really with
00:14:24
compassion. That's the other tool
00:14:28
that you need to bring. Because the Lord
00:14:31
offers us that same compassion over and over
00:14:35
again. And we've got to extend that same compassion
00:14:39
to ourselves when we find ourselves falling
00:14:43
back into old patterns. Because the invitation is never,
00:14:46
do better. The Lord doesn't say, do better. Come back and try
00:14:50
again. It's always, just, come back to me.
00:14:54
I will give you rest. I will give you what you need,
00:14:58
everything you need, again and again and again.
00:15:03
So if you find yourself later today overwhelmed, or
00:15:07
you happen to notice you're reaching for your phone without thinking, or
00:15:11
standing in front of the pantry or the refrigerator again,
00:15:15
instead of being harsh and critical of yourself, just pause
00:15:19
and say, lord, here I am. Be with me
00:15:22
here. And that's it.
00:15:26
It's not about being polished, and it's not about being perfect, but it's just about
00:15:30
really learning to be more present to what you're experiencing in the
00:15:33
moment. And it's not about always getting it right,
00:15:37
but it's just really about staying connected and letting
00:15:40
prayer and this awareness be that thread that gets you through the day,
00:15:44
that helps you stay connected in that relationship with the Lord.
00:15:51
And I hope that what you walk away from, from this
00:15:55
40 days to food Freedom journey, this
00:15:58
shift that I really pray that you take away from this, is that
00:16:03
you don't have to prove anything to anyone
00:16:08
to really be able to let go of that
00:16:11
performance pressure that you're feeling. Because you don't have to prove
00:16:15
anything. Not with what you eat, not with your body, not. Not with
00:16:19
your productivity, not with your discipline. What I
00:16:23
want you to take away and what I really pray that you experience
00:16:26
in this Holy Week. Because this is the foundation of it
00:16:30
all, the foundation of everything that we go through
00:16:34
in Holy Week. Walking the passion with
00:16:38
the Lord, going through and experiencing his
00:16:41
crucifixion. It all comes down to the fact that
00:16:45
you are already loved
00:16:48
and that you are already saved. The battle has already been won for
00:16:52
your life. And when you let
00:16:56
that truth become that foundation and the way that you
00:16:59
operate, everything else starts to settle.
00:17:03
Food becomes food. Your body becomes a gift.
00:17:08
Rest becomes allowed. And the ropes,
00:17:12
while they don't disappear overnight, they do lose their grip. Little
00:17:16
by little, they tether, they fray.
00:17:22
So as we move out of Lent, please don't
00:17:25
ask yourself, how do I keep going about this perfectly?
00:17:30
But instead ask yourself, how do I stay close to the Lord in this moment?
00:17:35
Because that's where that freedom lives there, in
00:17:39
relationship with the Lord. Not in any particular plan, not in any
00:17:43
particular rules, but just in relationship.
00:17:47
And I just want to say thank you and that I'm really proud of you
00:17:51
for showing up, for being willing to
00:17:55
look deeper and to explore this idea of
00:17:59
attachments and tethers this Lenten season here
00:18:02
on the podcast for letting God meet you in this.
00:18:07
Just know that I'm proud of you and I think it's really awesome that you're
00:18:10
having these shifts. So just keep going, keep noticing, keep
00:18:14
returning and keep praying for that rope to be loosened.
00:18:18
I thank you so much for spending this time here with me on the
00:18:21
podcast this week. I hope you have a beautiful and
00:18:25
blessed Holy Week and a wonderful
00:18:28
Easter week weekend celebrating the
00:18:32
resurrection of our Lord that the battle for our life has already been won
00:18:37
and I will be right back here with you again next week. Remember beauty
00:18:41
held as a seed, beauty shared is the flower. It is your time to bloom.
00:18:45
Take care and God bless.
