Hey friend—are you doing "all the right things" with food… yet still feeling stuck because the scale hasn't moved?

Welcome back to Nourished to Bloom. Today we're unpacking a quiet but heavy struggle so many women carry: experiencing real wins with intuitive eating and healthier habits—less food noise, more peace, more freedom—yet still believing that weight loss is the final measure of success.

In this episode, we're naming that tension honestly and compassionately. We're talking about why it's possible to feel healthier, more at ease, and more connected to God—while still doubting ourselves because the number on the scale hasn't changed. And we're inviting the Lord into that space with us.

Together, we explore how diet culture has shaped our beliefs, why weight is only one (and often not the most meaningful) indicator of health, and how Scripture calls us to a much richer definition of worth and success.

✨ What we dive into in this episode:

🌿 Real stories from coaching conversations with women who feel more peaceful with food—but still question their progress 🧠 Why decades of diet culture conditioning make weight loss feel like proof of health and worth ⚖️ The truth about health being multi-dimensional—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual 📖 A Gospel-centered reframe using Matthew 5:13–16: You are the light of the world—no conditions attached 🕯️ A powerful glow-in-the-dark analogy from a homily that reminds us where our radiance really comes from 💛 Encouragement to celebrate freedom, peace, and gentler habits—even if weight loss hasn't shown up 🙏 A loving reminder: when your "glow" feels dim, it's not a sign to try harder—it's an invitation to draw closer to God

If this episode stirred something in you—if you're craving freedom from food and body obsession and want support unlearning old beliefs—you don't have to walk this journey alone.

00:00:02
Are you letting the number on the scale rob you of

00:00:05
progress or success? Are you letting it

00:00:09
dictate your worth? Is it one of

00:00:12
those situations where every other part of your life says that you are

00:00:16
enough, you are doing great, like you got this, but

00:00:20
there's that little noise in your voice that says,

00:00:24
but you didn't lose the weight? And that you let that

00:00:28
thing define every part of your life. That you

00:00:32
would be happier, that you would be more successful, that you would be

00:00:35
more worthy, that the changes and the progress that you made

00:00:39
would actually be meaningful if only the number on the

00:00:43
scale would budge. Y'all, today we're unpacking that quiet

00:00:47
struggle that so many women face, one that I experienced

00:00:50
myself. That when you have these real wins

00:00:54
with maybe intuitive eating or building healthier habits or

00:00:58
really following your vocation, yet still believing that

00:01:02
weight loss is that final proof of health

00:01:06
or proof of worthiness. We're going to look at what

00:01:09
scripture says and why this belief runs so deep in

00:01:13
our minds and how God invites us to step into

00:01:17
a truer freer definition of success.

Welcome to Nourish to Bloom, where every day is a sacred

00:02:57
invitation to thrive.

00:03:01
Hey there, welcome back to the Nourish to Bloom podcast. So happy to be

00:03:05
spending some time here with you this week, and I am really

00:03:08
glad you're here today because this episode is

00:03:12
for you if you are the woman who is doing do so many

00:03:16
things right in her life and yet still feel like she's

00:03:19
falling short just because of the number on the scale.

00:03:24
I want to start by saying that this is something that has been coming

00:03:28
up again and again in coaching conversations lately.

00:03:31
I do a lot of work with women who are experiencing real

00:03:35
tangible wins around intuitive eating and in their health,

00:03:39
things like they're able to eliminate

00:03:43
that, like, food noise in their head. So, like, food

00:03:46
just feels quieter. They're not constantly thinking about

00:03:50
what they should or shouldn't eat. They can go out to dinner and

00:03:54
actually enjoy it. Maybe they're overeating less,

00:03:57
or emotional eating isn't running the show anymore.

00:04:01
There's just this overall, you know, more sense

00:04:05
of peace, more freedom. More trust in their

00:04:08
body. Like, they tell me, I feel better,

00:04:12
I do, I feel better. And yet there's this lingering

00:04:16
thought that pops up underneath it all,

00:04:20
but I haven't lost any weight. And so they start to

00:04:24
doubt if they're even successful, if they've even made progress.

00:04:27
Has it even been worth it because they haven't lost weight? Or it's,

00:04:31
you would think that because I'm doing all of these things that are good and

00:04:35
right that I would lose weight. I

00:04:38
hear it all the time. And if that thought has crossed your mind,

00:04:43
even quietly, you are not alone.

00:04:48
It's so hard because

00:04:51
I have so many women who tell me, I feel better, I'm more at peace

00:04:55
with food, I'm healthier in so many ways.

00:04:58
But then it's like that pause that comes up, right? Like this tension.

00:05:02
And it's like, I still believe that If I were really healthy, I'd be

00:05:06
losing this weight. And I think that we really need to

00:05:11
pause in this moment, 'cause it's an important moment, and

00:05:14
really look at the truth of this. Because what's happening

00:05:18
when this comes up in your life, it isn't failure, it's not

00:05:22
a lack of discipline, it's not that you're doing it wrong.

00:05:26
The real root of this is it's old conditioning.

00:05:30
It's the way that you've been programmed to think, because

00:05:33
diet culture has whispered in your ears for

00:05:37
years, in your ears for years,

00:05:41
and it's planted these really deep-rooted beliefs.

00:05:45
For some, it's been decades that you have been conditioned to believe

00:05:49
that you're only healthy if you lose weight,

00:05:53
or you're only healthy if your BMI says that

00:05:57
you're not overweight or obese. Like, we've been

00:06:00
taught explicitly and implicitly that weight

00:06:04
loss equals health, thinness equals virtue,

00:06:08
a changing body equals progress. But even when

00:06:12
we're experiencing behaviors that are healing, even

00:06:15
when our relationship with food and our body is healing,

00:06:20
these beliefs can linger. But

00:06:23
we have to remember that if we look at it as simple

00:06:27
as diet culture makes it seem, that if you eat less

00:06:31
you'll lose weight, then that would work for everybody,

00:06:35
right? But it doesn't, because we are each individual

00:06:39
human bodies. So I want to invite

00:06:42
you into this moment where we're going to speak clearly and

00:06:46
compassionately Because we know both clinically and

00:06:50
experientially, the things that we've experienced, that

00:06:54
dieting promotes weight cycling. Yeah, maybe you have had

00:06:58
some weight loss when you've been on a diet, but the thing is it's not

00:07:00
sustainable, and you've probably gained all that weight back and maybe

00:07:04
even more. And the research tells us

00:07:08
that weight cycling, this losing, gaining, losing, gaining, gaining,

00:07:11
is associated with worse health outcomes. Than if we

00:07:15
were to maintain one weight. And here's—

00:07:19
I mean, the big thing, y'all: weight is only one indicator of

00:07:23
health, and it's usually not the most helpful one. It's

00:07:26
usually not the most truthful one. We have to

00:07:30
remember that our health is multi-dimensional— physical,

00:07:33
mental, emotional, spiritual. We are an integrated

00:07:37
person, and yet we've reduced our health

00:07:42
down to a number.

00:07:46
But here's where our faith invites us into something deeper. Like,

00:07:50
yes, of course the Lord cares about our bodies. He created them,

00:07:54
he designed them, and he calls us to steward them,

00:07:58
to nourish them, and to care for them. But scripture

00:08:01
is very clear that God is far more concerned with the state of our souls

00:08:05
than the size of our bodies. And when we continue to tie

00:08:09
our worth or our success or even our holiness to weight

00:08:13
loss, we're unintentionally placing the scale in a position

00:08:17
of being an idol, a place where it was

00:08:21
never meant to be.

00:08:25
And so I want to kind of anchor this episode in the

00:08:28
gospel from Matthew 5, verses 13 through

00:08:32
16. Where Jesus tells us, you are the

00:08:36
salt of the earth, you are the light of the world,

00:08:40
your light shines before others.

00:08:45
Notice what Jesus doesn't say in this scripture. He

00:08:49
doesn't say, you are the light of the world once you fix yourself,

00:08:53
you are the light of the world once your body looks different,

00:08:57
you are the light of the world once you hit a certain number.

00:09:01
He simply says, you are, you are the light of the

00:09:05
world right here, right now, in the body that

00:09:09
you're living in, just as you are. Y'all, your

00:09:12
light isn't something that you earn. It's something that is a gift. You

00:09:16
receive it, and then you're reflecting it onto others.

00:09:21
This weekend, this was the gospel reading, and our priest

00:09:24
shared in his homily something that I felt was just so

00:09:28
impactful, especially when we get tied up in this, you

00:09:32
know, running to the scale for

00:09:37
validation, or putting on a pair of jeans that are a certain

00:09:40
size for validation. We are putting it all in the wrong place.

00:09:44
And so in his homily, he started off talking about

00:09:48
glow-in-the-dark toys, and you know how as children we all

00:09:52
had glow-in-the-dark toys. You know, maybe some had GI Joe glow-in-the-darks,

00:09:56
or, you know, like rainbow ponies that glowed in the dark, or

00:10:00
frisbees, like those kind of things, right? And what he said was

00:10:04
really very simple but very profound. When we think about these glow-in-the-dark

00:10:08
toys, they don't just glow on their own, right? They're not

00:10:11
battery operated. They're fueled

00:10:15
by light, right? And when they start to fade, it doesn't mean that they're

00:10:18
broken. It doesn't mean that they just need to try harder.

00:10:23
They just need to be recharged by a bright light. So when you

00:10:26
go and you place these toys under a light, they're recharged and then they glow

00:10:30
brighter. And he reminded us that this is

00:10:34
us, that when we feel dim, when we feel

00:10:37
discouraged, when we're starting to doubt our worth or our progress,

00:10:41
this is not a sign that we're failing. It's a sign that we need to

00:10:45
run to the Father to be renewed,

00:10:49
to be reminded where our light comes from. Y'all, our

00:10:52
radiance doesn't come from weight loss, and it doesn't come from having

00:10:56
everything under control, and it doesn't come from perfection.

00:11:01
It comes from being close to the light himself.

00:11:06
So if you're in this season where you are feeling more

00:11:10
peace around food, or maybe you've created some habits

00:11:13
that are gentler and more sustainable for whatever phase of life that

00:11:17
you're in, maybe you're less controlled by eating you're able to

00:11:21
be more present in your life, but you're still waiting

00:11:25
on weight loss, I really

00:11:28
want to lovingly say this, that you are not almost successful.

00:11:34
You are successful. You are progressing, and you are still

00:11:37
unlearning the deep roots and the years

00:11:41
of conditioning from diet culture. You're learning how to

00:11:45
separate your health from thinness and the false

00:11:48
idols of the world. You're learning how to separate your worth from

00:11:52
your weight, and you're learning how to separate your

00:11:55
holiness from having this under control. And that

00:11:59
takes time. So today, instead of, you

00:12:03
know, beating yourself up because you haven't seen the number on the scale change,

00:12:07
really take a minute to look at the progress. Where has your

00:12:11
freedom grown? Where has peace taken root?

00:12:16
And where has God been quietly restoring you?

00:12:20
And if your glow maybe feels dim right now, if

00:12:24
you have these doubts creeping back in, and

00:12:28
gosh, if that scale feels louder than it should, it's not

00:12:32
a call to try another diet. It's not a call to eat

00:12:36
less food. It's not a call to do anything more. It's

00:12:40
just an invitation to come closer, to let yourself be

00:12:43
recharged by truth, and to remember that your

00:12:47
worth comes from him alone and it's not something that you have to earn.

00:12:51
And to let your light shine— it's already within you,

00:12:55
you just have to let it shine.

00:12:58
Y'all, if this episode stirred something in you, I really

00:13:02
want you to know that you don't have to navigate this unlearning alone.

00:13:07
If you are feeling like you are making progress in your life, or you really

00:13:10
want to undo this, this association, this

00:13:14
validation that you have with the scale,

00:13:18
this is exactly the kind of work that we do in coaching.

00:13:21
It's really this gentle dismantling of old

00:13:25
beliefs, learning to strengthen our trust

00:13:28
and anchoring our health in God's truth rather than the

00:13:32
fears that the world promotes. So if

00:13:36
that is something that you desire, simply send me an email,

00:13:39
kara@karatrocta.com, put coaching

00:13:42
in the subject, and we'll take it from there. Have an honest conversation,

00:13:47
because I really believe, and I want you to know, that you are already

00:13:51
the light that the world needs. You just have to

00:13:55
find the way to shine it, and this is your

00:13:59
moment to do that. So just remember,

00:14:02
your worth is not. Tied to any sort of weight

00:14:06
that. You have gained or lost. You

00:14:10
are simply worthy because you are God's beloved daughter.

00:14:14
I hope you have a beautiful and blessed week, and remember,

00:14:17
beauty held is a seed, beauty shared is the flower. It is your time to

00:14:21
bloom. Take care, and I'll see you next week. Bye!
