Hey friends! I'm so glad you're joining me for another heartfelt episode of Nourished to Bloom. Today we're diving into a question that whispers quietly but persistently in so many of our hearts:

What does it actually look like to say YES to God as you write the next chapter of your sacred story?

If you're in that "middle motherhood" space—not a new mom, not an empty nester, just somewhere beautifully in-between—you may feel a gentle nudge toward something more. A little more stillness. A little more curiosity. A lot more questions.

If you've ever wondered what God's invitation looks like in this season… and how your daily YES can shape the direction of your life… this episode is for you.

Today, we turn to Mary—the first disciple whose courageous fiat, her "let it be done," literally changed salvation history. She wasn't superhuman. She was a real woman, living a real life, with real fears and unknowns. Yet her YES opened the door for God's plan to unfold.

And here's the beautiful truth: your YES matters too. Right here. Right now. In the holy in-between you're living.

✨ In This Episode, We Explore:

  • Why Mary's story isn't just for Advent—it's a blueprint for every woman navigating transitions, restlessness, or identity shifts.
  • What "fiat" really means and why it's far from a passive yes.
  • How God's invitations rarely show up when life is neat and organized—but instead arrive in the messy middle.
  • Why your next YES might be small and unseen… or bold and life-changing.
  • How every surrendered YES becomes part of God's bigger story.
  • The sacred meaning behind the word "BEHOLD" and how it teaches us to notice God doing something new.
  • A comforting reminder: You don't need the whole story to say yes to the next step. God simply asks for openness, honesty, and attentiveness.

00:00:00
So last week we started exploring what it means to

00:00:04
write the next chapter of your sacred story. Especially

00:00:08
as a woman in that middle motherhood

00:00:12
space. You're not a brand new mom anymore. You're not quite an

00:00:16
empty nester. You're just kind of right here in the middle

00:00:19
of your life. You have a little more space, maybe a little more

00:00:23
time, a little more silence. And it's bringing up

00:00:27
a lot more questions. And so today we're going to

00:00:31
continue that journey by looking at one woman who rewrote

00:00:34
the entire story of salvation history with one

00:00:38
simple, courageous word.

00:00:41
Yes. Fiat.

00:00:45
Let it be done. Yes, Lord, I'm

00:00:49
yours. We're talking about Mary,

00:00:53
but we could just as easily be talking about you. But

00:00:57
we're talking about Mary as a real woman, just like you are in

00:01:00
a real home, living a real life filled with

00:01:04
real unknowns. A woman who felt maybe the same way

00:01:08
you do. Fear, confusion.

00:01:11
Disruption, change. And

00:01:15
she still said yes. Her

00:01:18
yes. Open the door for your yes.

00:01:22
And so today, I want to help you see what that means for you

00:01:26
as you begin writing this next chapter of your

00:01:29
sacred story. Welcome to the Nourish

And I'm so happy you're here. Welcome to Nourish

00:03:03
to Bloom, where every day is a sacred invitation to

00:03:06
thrive. Hey there. Welcome back to the Nourish to Bloom

00:03:10
podcast. So happy to be spending some time here with

00:03:14
you this week. I don't know about you,

00:03:17
but I get to this time of year and it's so crazy.

00:03:21
Like, we just finished Thanksgiving. Advent started and I feel like it

00:03:25
came out of nowhere, even though it always comes like this.

00:03:28
And then it's just like the next three weeks are just chaos. I

00:03:32
was talking with my sister this morning and she's like, kara,

00:03:37
we have three weeks of dress up things for school.

00:03:41
I'm like, yeah, I know, it's kind of crazy, three weeks.

00:03:44
And I said, you know, you don't have to say yes to all

00:03:48
of them. And she's like, yeah, I know. But then sometimes I

00:03:52
feel like I'm not a good mom if my kids aren't the ones who are

00:03:55
dressed up. And I get that. Right. We kind of all feel that.

00:03:59
And what's interesting is that we see start to say

00:04:03
yes to kind of just everything

00:04:06
and anything that would make us

00:04:12
seem like we have it all together, that we are, you

00:04:15
know, the perfect mom. Our kids want for nothing, like trying

00:04:19
to save face. But it's so interesting because when we start to

00:04:23
do this, we don't leave

00:04:26
room, we don't leave energy, we don't leave

00:04:30
emotional and mental space to be able to say

00:04:34
yes to the really big important things

00:04:38
that we are being called to say yes to.

00:04:42
Have you ever thought about that? And so maybe

00:04:45
you're like I was a few years ago. You have spent

00:04:49
the last several years pouring everything into your kids. Whether

00:04:53
you were home full time or you work from home, or you're

00:04:57
juggling part time hours, maybe it's still kind

00:05:00
of navigating this post pandemic landscape

00:05:05
because you've left a job during that time or you

00:05:09
realized that the career or whatever your degree

00:05:12
was in before you had kids is not what you want to go back to

00:05:16
or pursue. You're just kind of in this

00:05:20
in between because

00:05:24
your primary focus has been on making sure that everyone else is okay.

00:05:29
But now you are maybe feeling something stirring inside

00:05:32
of you. You're kind of noticing that you have these pockets of

00:05:36
quiet moments where the house is still.

00:05:40
And while in that moment it may seem like, oh yeah, let's binge watch

00:05:43
Netflix because the kids are out of the house, or I can read a book

00:05:47
or I can finally do this organization project. The reality is

00:05:51
that that's really not fulfilling. And

00:05:55
so these questions start to appear that really maybe you

00:05:58
haven't had the time or the emotional capacity to

00:06:02
ask up until this point. And

00:06:06
that's that holy in between that you find yourself in.

00:06:10
I want you to think about this. It's kind of a place where Mary was

00:06:13
when Gabriel appeared. She was just living her

00:06:16
ordinary life. She was engaged to Joseph,

00:06:20
so I would imagine they were planning a wedding. She was

00:06:24
faithful in the small things. I mean, we can think about it. You know, Gabriel

00:06:28
appeared to her in her home, and she may have been doing the

00:06:31
dishes, she may have been sweeping the dirt

00:06:35
floor. She may have been mending something or cooking

00:06:38
a meal. She wasn't expecting anything dramatic,

00:06:43
and she definitely wasn't expecting this big divine

00:06:47
assignment. And yet, in

00:06:51
that ordinary right where she was in the middle of

00:06:54
her home, it's exactly where God announced something

00:06:58
new to her. And so

00:07:02
I think the Lord may be doing the same thing for you.

00:07:06
He's whispering your next chapter. When life is

00:07:10
giving you this space to be able to hear him.

00:07:14
Right. Maybe it's coming while you're folding the clothes.

00:07:17
Maybe it's coming while you're cooking

00:07:21
dinner. You just have this little nudge on your heart

00:07:25
over and over again. And it's this invitation

00:07:29
from the Lord to something new,

00:07:33
to something maybe a little bit different. And

00:07:36
so I want to take a moment, and I just. I love.

00:07:41
I love this Advent time of year because I feel like it's

00:07:45
such an invitation for us to slow down, to

00:07:49
really be able to prepare and connect and grow deeper with the Lord.

00:07:53
And it's so counterintuitive to what the world is inviting

00:07:57
us to, the chaos and consumerism. And

00:08:01
so I want to just read the

00:08:04
Annunciation because it's such a beautiful thing to reflect on. There's

00:08:08
so many beautiful words and

00:08:12
encounters and exchanges that happen. So we're going to read Luke, chapter

00:08:16
1 26:38. In the sixth month,

00:08:19
the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named

00:08:23
Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was

00:08:26
Joseph of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary.

00:08:30
And he came to her and said, hail, full of grace, the Lord is with

00:08:34
you. But she was greatly troubled at the saying and

00:08:37
considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel

00:08:41
said to her, do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found

00:08:45
favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in

00:08:48
your womb and bear A son. And you shall call his name Jesus.

00:08:53
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.

00:08:57
And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and

00:09:00
he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. And of his kingdom

00:09:04
there shall be no end. And Mary said to the angel,

00:09:08
how can this be, since I have no husband? And the angel said to

00:09:12
her, the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High

00:09:15
will overshadow you. Therefore, the child to be born will be called

00:09:19
holy, the Son of God. And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth, in

00:09:23
her old age, has also conceived a son. And this is the sixth month

00:09:26
with her who was called barren. For with

00:09:30
God, nothing will be impossible. And Mary said,

00:09:34
behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done

00:09:38
to me according to your word. And the angel departed from

00:09:41
her.

00:09:46
So beautiful, right? I think there's so many parts of it where we can,

00:09:50
you know, it's not going to be the exact same, but where we can take

00:09:53
the name Mary out and put your name in,

00:09:58
right? The Lord says, behold, this will happen in your life.

00:10:04
Nothing is impossible for God.

00:10:09
We see that Mary was troubled and confused

00:10:13
and unsure in this moment in

00:10:16
time, but she was also open.

00:10:20
Her yes wasn't passive and it wasn't blind and it

00:10:23
wasn't effortless. Her yes was really this

00:10:27
posture, a way of holding her life

00:10:31
for God to present it to God, to say, let it be done

00:10:35
to me according to your will. And I think

00:10:38
it's something that we can really use

00:10:42
as a blueprint as we write this next chapter.

00:10:46
And Luke shows us this posture in kind of three steps.

00:10:50
Step number one. Mary shows up to the moment.

00:10:56
She listens. She's attentive. She

00:10:59
doesn't run away from the discomfort or questions.

00:11:05
Number two, she asks the honest question, how can this be?

00:11:09
Your yes to God doesn't demand perfection.

00:11:13
This next chapter doesn't mean that you have to have it figured out

00:11:17
from point A to point B. But just

00:11:21
being honest with the Lord and being open to him

00:11:25
and knowing that the next thing doesn't have to be your forever

00:11:29
thing. And then number three, she opens her

00:11:33
hands. She surrenders, saying, let it

00:11:36
be done to me according to your word.

00:11:40
Now, if you think about it like this is the moment that

00:11:44
changed everything. Where would we be

00:11:47
without Mary's yes? Because her yes opened the door

00:11:51
for Christ to enter the world. Her yes opened the door for

00:11:54
redemption for you and for me. Her yes

00:11:58
opens the door for your yes,

00:12:02
your ability to say yes to God in your life right here, right

00:12:06
now. And

00:12:09
so I think it's just take a moment and think about that.

00:12:13
God has a plan and he's, he knows this plan.

00:12:17
He's known this plan from the beginning of creation for Mary's life,

00:12:21
for your life, for my life. Mary was created at that

00:12:25
moment in time specifically because God needed her to be

00:12:29
in that moment. He needed her yes then, just like he

00:12:32
created you for this very specific moment in history.

00:12:36
And he needs your yes now.

00:12:40
The yes in the small day to day things that we're doing, to do it

00:12:43
with love and joy. The yes in

00:12:47
the big things that are maybe scary and uncertain.

00:12:52
But we can use Mary as, as this an

00:12:55
example of how

00:12:59
to say yes. And then what does this

00:13:03
mean? What does your yes mean for your next chapter?

00:13:09
So I want you to hear this clearly because I think we get it in

00:13:13
our heads that everything has to be perfect. How many times have we

00:13:16
said, well, someday I'll do this, or when this happens, I'll do this?

00:13:21
But God's invitations rarely come when life is

00:13:24
perfectly organized.

00:13:28
They present themselves when you're in a transition, because transition

00:13:32
means vulnerability. It means an openness.

00:13:36
It allows for curiosity. It comes

00:13:39
in moments of restlessness because the God, because the Lord

00:13:43
is inviting you to say yes to something that will

00:13:47
bring a sense of being settled.

00:13:51
Like, have you thought about that? When you say yes to the Lord, when you

00:13:55
have, you know, said yes in the

00:13:58
day to day things, when you've said yes to the big things, it brings some

00:14:02
certainty. It brings this sense of being settled. There's

00:14:05
this calmness even in

00:14:09
those, I don't know what's next moments,

00:14:15
just like Mary, she didn't know,

00:14:18
but she trusted. And so as you think about your next chapter,

00:14:23
maybe what you're focusing on in the new year, instead of asking

00:14:27
things like what do I want to accomplish? Or what should I fix or

00:14:30
improve? Maybe it's a shift to asking, lord, what are you inviting

00:14:34
me to? What's this next chapter you are trying

00:14:38
to write in my life look like? What does

00:14:42
saying yes look like for me right now? And you might

00:14:45
find that your yes might be something small. Maybe it's

00:14:50
and I say small, but this is really not small because it's kind of everything.

00:14:53
But maybe it means growing in spiritual

00:14:57
discipline. It might be something that's

00:15:00
quiet, might be something that is not flashy or showy.

00:15:05
It might be simply being open and creating space for him again.

00:15:10
Or it might be something bigger. It may mean

00:15:14
Serving in a ministry, creating a ministry, creating a business,

00:15:18
going back to a career. It might mean

00:15:22
rediscovering your identity or starting something new.

00:15:26
Maybe it's letting something go or healing something that's been

00:15:30
held too tightly for too long. But whatever it is, I

00:15:33
want you to know that your yes matters and that your yes

00:15:37
impacts the history of the kingdom of God,

00:15:42
because your yes becomes part of God's story. And

00:15:46
the world needs your yes. I want

00:15:50
to go back to the Scripture and the

00:15:53
Annunciation, because one of my favorite things in reading

00:15:57
it is really digging into the word.

00:16:00
Behold. Gabriel says to Mary,

00:16:04
behold. And by the end of this

00:16:08
encounter, Mary says, behold, back to

00:16:11
God. And I

00:16:15
want to just kind of dig into what behold means. Because her yes

00:16:19
wasn't just acceptance. It was. It was attention. It

00:16:22
was. It was yes, Lord, and. And saying

00:16:26
behold, like, I agree, because behold can mean, like, pay

00:16:30
attention. Don't miss this. God is doing something new.

00:16:35
Look at this with wonder. And you're being

00:16:38
invited, invited into your own behold moment in this

00:16:42
next chapter. You've had these moments

00:16:45
before, right? I think. I think this is this

00:16:49
moment. And this next chapter is one of the most difficult ones to

00:16:53
navigate, because when you were in high school and you were

00:16:56
thinking about what's next, it was maybe college or career,

00:17:00
but it was kind of like, you know, college, and you got

00:17:04
into college and like, yes, Lord, I'm doing that.

00:17:08
But you're. But your yes

00:17:12
aligned, like, with what you wanted, right?

00:17:15
And then maybe the next thing was marriage. And so your yes

00:17:19
to that vocation aligned with what you wanted.

00:17:23
And then maybe children came and your yes, Lord, I will

00:17:27
be a mother also aligned with something you wanted.

00:17:31
But I think we get to this point and because we might not know what's

00:17:35
next, we might not know what we desire,

00:17:39
we worry that our yes isn't going to align with what we

00:17:43
want. Because I think many of us might not know what we

00:17:46
want in this next chapter. But this is what this

00:17:50
invitation is, that there's this. There's something God

00:17:54
is doing in you right now, even if you don't fully understand

00:17:58
it yet. And that's why I created

00:18:01
the free guide writing your next chapter and the mini retreat to go

00:18:05
along with it that I'm hosting on December 10th. And it's really not

00:18:09
to add another task to the chaos

00:18:13
and you're already full life, but it's really more of an invitation

00:18:17
to help you slow down enough to notice

00:18:21
what the Lord is inviting you to.

00:18:26
Because the truth that Mary shows us is that God's plan for your life

00:18:29
unfolds over a lifetime, not just a

00:18:33
single afternoon, and that you don't need the whole

00:18:37
story to say yes to the next step. I don't think Mary

00:18:41
could have imagined what her whole story was going to be when she said yes

00:18:44
in that moment. And your yes, big or small,

00:18:49
is enough for what the Lord

00:18:53
needs. He just needs you to say yes.

00:18:57
So as you step into writing this next chapter, you don't

00:19:00
need to feel ready. You don't need to have all the

00:19:04
clarity. You just need to be open, to be

00:19:07
attentive and honest and be willing to

00:19:11
say, lord, let it be done.

00:19:15
I hope today's episode stirred something in you, maybe

00:19:19
a new perspective to think about what this next chapter is

00:19:23
going to look like, maybe what this, your New Year's

00:19:26
resolution, will look like. And so if you felt the Holy

00:19:30
Spirit nudging you, whispering something new, I want to invite you to

00:19:33
take a next step. The first one is to download the

00:19:37
free guide writing the next chapter of your sacred story.

00:19:41
It walks you through just different discernment questions. It gives you

00:19:45
space to really be able to sit in

00:19:49
quiet and reflection and hear what the Lord is inviting you to say

00:19:53
yes to. And then I invite you to join

00:19:57
me for the a free live mini retreat on

00:20:01
December 10th that's taking place online via Zoom

00:20:04
December 10th at 11am and it's going

00:20:08
deeper into writing this next chapter. It's

00:20:12
going to take what you've gotten from the guide and it's going to help you

00:20:15
kind of narrow it down and figure out next steps. And

00:20:18
so it's a guided, prayerful space to

00:20:22
help you listen to the Lord, to help you further discern your yes,

00:20:26
maybe set some goals as you begin entering the New Year

00:20:30
from a place of intention and peace, not pressure.

00:20:35
So you can find the links to both of these, the free guide and the

00:20:38
registration for the the mini retreat in the show

00:20:41
description, click the links and go

00:20:45
and download it. It's an instant download and then sign up for the

00:20:48
registration. So just remember as you

00:20:52
navigate this Advent season, this time for preparation,

00:20:56
this time for growing closer to the Lord, your

00:21:00
story is sacred and your next chapter is already

00:21:04
held in his hands. He is the divine

00:21:08
author and he is really just asking you to

00:21:12
pick up the pencil and write. And like Mary,

00:21:15
your yes, even the smallest ones makes room for Christ to be

00:21:19
born again in your life and

00:21:23
in someone else's life. So thank you again for spending this time

00:21:27
with me. I pray that this episode continues to give you

00:21:30
courage and clarity and hope as you listen for God's invitation

00:21:34
in your life. Remember, beauty held is the same seed. Beauty shared is

00:21:38
the flower. It is your time to bloom. I hope you have a

00:21:41
beautiful and blessed week. And I can't wait to see you at the mini

00:21:45
retreat. So be sure to sign up. We'll talk soon. Bye.
