Hey friends! We've spent the last few weeks building a foundation for Christ-centered self-care—why it matters, the four pillars that keep us steady, how to create a daily plan, and how caring for ourselves helps us discover who God created us to be.

Now, in this final episode of our series, we're zooming out to see the bigger picture: self-care isn't just about us feeling better—it's about preparing us for the mission God has entrusted to us. 💫

When we live as good stewards of our body, mind, and soul, we're not just healthier—we're equipped to bear fruit, love others more fully, and shine Christ's light in a weary world. Together, we'll connect all the pieces of this journey and explore how daily care rooted in faith becomes the soil for our unique calling to flourish.

✨ Key Takeaways:

  • Self-care = stewardship. We care for the vessel God wants to work through.
  • Why neglect leads to burnout, but stewardship leads to fruitfulness.
  • How the foundation, pillars, CARE framework, and discovery all fit together.
  • The call to mission: caring for ourselves equips us to live out God's purpose with joy.

00:00:00
So throughout the course of this Christ Centered Self care series,

00:00:04
we have been talking about the importance of self care with

00:00:08

Welcome to Nourish to Bloom, where every day is a sacred

00:02:13
invitation to thrive.

00:02:17
Hey there. Welcome back to the Nourish to Bloom podcast. I'm your

00:02:21
host, Kara Trachta. So happy to be spending some time here with you

00:02:25
this week and we're really going to take what we've talked

00:02:28
about over the last four weeks and bring it all together. Really

00:02:32
weave this path of the importance of Christ Centered

00:02:36
self Care and, you know, just kind of tie it all together and really look

00:02:39
at this from like this big picture view of why self care

00:02:43
is important as Catholic and Christian women. And, and I

00:02:47
kind of want to highlight two things here. The first being that

00:02:51
when we think about self care, we got to go back to how

00:02:55
the Lord calls us to live those two greatest commandments,

00:02:58
to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, with

00:03:02
all your soul. And the second one is just like that, to love your

00:03:05
neighbor as yourself. And I think self care is one of

00:03:09
the ways that we can actually better live out these

00:03:12
commandments, because when we see ourselves as worthy of being

00:03:16
taken care of, then it allows us to look at those around

00:03:19
us, the ones that we love and serve, as also being worthy,

00:03:23
simply because God loves each one of us. And the next

00:03:27
thing, I kind of want to weave into this because I just felt,

00:03:31
I feel like I heard this message for

00:03:35
a specific reason, because I think so many of us struggle with our own

00:03:38
worthiness, with our own dignity, and self care can be a real

00:03:42
struggle for that. But I think in general, we just have this bigger

00:03:46
struggle about seeing ourselves as worthy or having dignity.

00:03:49
And a few weeks ago, we were, were traveling and we were

00:03:53
visiting the parish that my sister goes to, and it was

00:03:57
the. The feast of the veneration of the cross or the celebration of the cross.

00:04:00
And we were taught the priest in his homily was talking

00:04:04
about a couple of things. One being the

00:04:08
specific type of death that Jesus endured being

00:04:11
crucified. And he kind of went through and talked about the different

00:04:15
forms of punishment that the Romans had back in that day,

00:04:19
and how they ranged in sever,

00:04:23
depending on, you know, what the crime was, but then also depending on,

00:04:27
like, who the person was. And so the fact that Jesus was not Roman.

00:04:31
Crucifixion was the most painful, most shameful form

00:04:35
of death that someone who was not Roman could endure at that

00:04:39
time. And he said something that I thought was just so

00:04:42
beautiful, and he said, you know, the cross was so

00:04:45
shameful. Like in that time, people viewed being

00:04:49
crucified as the most shameful form of death.

00:04:53
And yet just by Jesus's body being on it,

00:04:57
he made that very shame, shameful thing holy. And it

00:05:01
struck me because I think that so many of us, we have these,

00:05:05
these crosses that we're carrying. We have these things within us that we

00:05:08
each are ashamed of, that we,

00:05:12
that we just carry around. And if we were to just invite the

00:05:16
Lord into that shame, to invite the Lord to Just merely

00:05:19
touch it, that he would make it holy and divine just

00:05:23
as he did the cross when he died.

00:05:27
So I wanted to share that because I feel like it's such a, an invitation

00:05:31
to freedom, an invitation to release from maybe any shame or

00:05:34
struggle that you have been experiencing just by simply

00:05:38
inviting Christ to touch that part of your life. And then the

00:05:42
other thing he said was that you think about the cross with the vertical and

00:05:44
the horizontal, right? And the vertical is really the love of God

00:05:48
coming down to us. And the horizontal Jesus's

00:05:52
outstretched arms is that sharing of that love. And I think that we

00:05:56
can kind of take this image and apply it to our self care

00:05:59
conversation because when we have, when we implement this Christ

00:06:03
centered self care, we're really allowing the love of God to come in,

00:06:08
to come down to us because we want to take care

00:06:11
of ourselves because we know that we are loved, that he gave us

00:06:15
this wonderful gift of our minds, bodies and souls and to be good stewards of

00:06:19
it. And when we allow that to happen, then we can can then pour out

00:06:22
those outstretched horizontal arms in sharing of ourselves

00:06:26
with others and serving others in the specific

00:06:30
mission that he has for us. So I just kind of wanted to share those

00:06:33
couple of things that were really just on my mind this week

00:06:37
to, to share about self care, about

00:06:41
mission. Just, I don't know, the message has just been on my heart for a

00:06:44
couple of weeks now and I really felt like this was a really

00:06:48
good place to share this message with you as we

00:06:52
kind of wrap up this whole self care series. Because over the last

00:06:55
four weeks we've really laid this path together. Episode one of the

00:06:59
series is all about the foundation, why

00:07:03
self care matters in light of our faith. We talked about reframing

00:07:07
self care as stewardship and not selfishness. And then in the

00:07:10
next episode we really formed those pillars of self care. The

00:07:14
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being and how it's

00:07:18
all integrated in us as a whole person, that we are not

00:07:22
these individual parts, that we are a whole person and they are all integrated and

00:07:25
interconnected and it's necessary for building that firm

00:07:29
foundation. And then in the third episode of the series

00:07:32
we talked about the plan and this is where I introduce you to that

00:07:36
care framework. Check in action

00:07:40
plan, renew, evaluate. Right. So checking

00:07:43
in, seeing where you are, what do you need in that moment? Action plan is

00:07:47
all about figuring out what it is that you're going to do, what is

00:07:51
the thing that's going to help you, what is the self care action

00:07:54
that you're Going to take renew is actually doing the darn thing.

00:07:59
And then evaluate is really just seeing. Where are you now? Did

00:08:02
that work? Are you still needing something else? What other care are you

00:08:06
needing? Right, so this helped us really make self care both practical and

00:08:10
sustainable. And then in last week's episode we talk about

00:08:13
the idea of discovery. How caring for ourselves creates

00:08:17
clarity for us to be able to hear God's voice and uncover who

00:08:21
he created us to be. And so in this episode we're seeing how all of

00:08:25
this comes together not as an in itself, but

00:08:28
as preparation for this mission. That

00:08:32
self care in the form of stewardship

00:08:35
is for mission. Scripture tells us in Ephesians

00:08:39
chapter 2, verse 10 that you were God's masterpiece, created in

00:08:43
Christ Jesus for good works. This means that your

00:08:47
life and my life, they're not random, that God created us with

00:08:50
a special purpose. Each one of us has a unique

00:08:54
mission, a unique call to sanctity. And so self care

00:08:57
isn't about indulging ourselves, it's really about caring for

00:09:01
the vessel that we are, that God wants to work

00:09:05
through. And so when we steward our health, when we steward

00:09:09
our energy, our emotions, our spiritual life, we are giving

00:09:12
our fiat, right? We're saying, yes Lord, I am ready,

00:09:16
use me, your servant is listening. And so if

00:09:20
we kind of zoom out and we think about life without this Christ

00:09:23
centered self care, it's very much living in that survival mode

00:09:27
of being burned out, resentful of responsibilities,

00:09:31
missing opportunity to serve because we're running on empty,

00:09:35
our light grows dim. But when we really

00:09:39
embody this Christ centered self care and we bring all these

00:09:42
pieces together, it's really that life approach to stewardship.

00:09:46
And then we're checking in with our needs. We're learning to create rhythms

00:09:50
of renewal and rest and inviting Christ into every part of

00:09:54
our wellness so he can make it holy and divine.

00:09:58
We have the energy that we need for our families, for our communities.

00:10:02
We have clarity in our decisions and this peace that

00:10:06
just overflows. Our light shines not

00:10:10
because of us, but because, but because we've created space for Christ

00:10:14
to shine through us. And so that

00:10:17
foundation that we talked about, it reminds us of why we

00:10:21
practice self care. We care for ourselves because our dignity

00:10:24
comes from God. Our pillars remind us

00:10:28
what we are taking care of. Our physical, mental, emotional and

00:10:31
spiritual care are all integrated and necessary.

00:10:35
Our came our care framework shows us the how

00:10:39
those practical steps we can use both daily and long term

00:10:44
discovery reminds us of who that we find our identity

00:10:47
and our vocation in Christ and our mission

00:10:51
reminds us of where this all leads to loving God and our

00:10:55
neighbor with fullness and joy. It's really this complete

00:10:58
picture we have self care and stewardship which leads us

00:11:02
into that discovery and that mission.

00:11:06
So I hope this whole series has really been more than just

00:11:10
wellness tips for you, but it's really about remembering that you are

00:11:13
God's beloved creation entrusted with a mission that only you

00:11:17
can fulfill and that Christ centered self care

00:11:21
allows you to prepare for that mission. That when you steward

00:11:25
your body, your mind, your soul with Christ at the center, you're not

00:11:29
just caring for yourself but you're preparing to bear that freedom fruit that

00:11:32
lasts. So if you'd like help creating this Christ

00:11:36
centered self care plan that's going to support both your well being

00:11:40
and your calling, I'd love to take that walk with you.

00:11:44
Simply send me an email@karaharatrochta.com

00:11:47
and we can set up this self care planning session where we spend

00:11:51
an hour just talking about what Christ centered self care is going to look

00:11:55
like in your life. Because God needs you to

00:11:59
embrace your unique identity to care for

00:12:03
the unique mind, body and soul that you are so you can live that

00:12:07
mission. Because your mission is more important than ever.

00:12:11
Remember, beauty held is the seed, beauty shared is the flower.

00:12:15
It is your time to bloom. As always, I thank

00:12:19
you so much for spending this time with me. I will be right

00:12:22
back here here next week and we are going to

00:12:26
move into our next topic which I think

00:12:30
is going to be all about cravings and

00:12:35
learning how to trust ourselves around food.

00:12:39
Especially as we're getting into candy season

00:12:43
with Halloween right around the corner and then those holidays.

00:12:47
So I hope you will join me next week as we embark on

00:12:51
that journey. But remember you are

00:12:54
beautifully and wonderfully made. I hope you have

00:12:58
a beautiful and blessed week. Go take care of yourself in a Christ

00:13:01
centered way and you will experience so much freedom and renewal

00:13:05
and fulfillment. Until then, we'll talk soon.
