What if self-care wasn't just about rest—but about discovery? When we care for our bodies, minds, and souls in Christ-centered ways, we create the space to hear God's voice more clearly and step into the unique calling He's placed on our lives.

In this episode, we're exploring how intentional self-care moves us from simply surviving to truly thriving. Together, we'll see how daily stewardship opens up clarity, renewal, and deeper discernment of who God created us to be.

✨ Here's what we'll uncover: 💡 Why neglecting our needs leaves us stuck in survival mode—and how Christ-centered care breaks that cycle. 🙏 How caring for body, mind, and spirit equips us to notice God's nudges and invitations. 🕊 Practical ways to use the CARE framework for both daily balance and long-term discernment. 🌱 Why self-care is a pathway to uncovering our gifts, passions, and vocation.

Friend, we are God's masterpieces—created for good works (Ephesians 2:10). When we root our rhythms of care in Him, we discover more of who He created us to be and step into our calling with joy.

00:00:01
So the last few weeks we have been talking about Christ

00:00:04
centered self care. What it is, what does it look

00:00:08
like, what is the purpose of self care when we put it

00:00:12
through the lens of a Christ centered perspective.

00:00:16
And so we're going to continue that conversation today because what

00:00:19
if self care wasn't just about rest or recovery,

00:00:23
but also about discovery? When we

00:00:27
care for our bodies, our minds and our souls in that Christ

00:00:31
centered way, we create space to better hear

00:00:34
God's voice more clearly, more

00:00:38
confidently, and we can step into that unique calling he's

00:00:42
placed on our lives. So in today's episode, we're exploring

00:00:46
how this intentional Christ centered self care doesn't

00:00:49
just fill your cup, but it reveals more of who

00:00:53
God made you to be.

00:02:27
to Nourish to Bloom, where every day is a sacred

00:02:30
invitation to thrive. Hey there. Welcome back to

00:02:34
the Nourish to Bloom podcast. So happy to be spending some time here

00:02:38
with you this week. I hope your week is off to

00:02:41
a great start. Now, last week on that podcast

00:02:45
we got really practical in Our conversation about self

00:02:49
care and I shared with you that care framework

00:02:53
that I came up with. Check in action plan,

00:02:56
renew and evaluate. And using that care

00:03:00
framework allowed us to see how simple daily practices

00:03:04
can move from self care that's

00:03:07
overwhelming to self care that is really sustained,

00:03:10
sustainable. So today we're going to shift our focus a little bit

00:03:14
and we're not going to look at self care as just something

00:03:18
that we do, but really understand more of

00:03:21
why it is so important to us as Christian

00:03:25
women. Because self care isn't about just being able to get through the day

00:03:29
with less stress. It's about living your life from

00:03:32
a place of clarity and alignment with God's design.

00:03:37
Very early on in the episodes about self care we talked about how it was

00:03:40
about stewardship of the gift that we are the gift that our bodies

00:03:44
are our minds, our souls, the gift of the calling

00:03:47
that he has put in each one of our lives. And so today

00:03:51
we're going to get a little bit deeper into really that stewardship

00:03:55
talk and about how self care is

00:03:58
really not just about something that you're doing, but when we practice this

00:04:02
Christ centered self care, it really opens, opens us up to

00:04:06
that place of discovery, of being able to better hear

00:04:09
God's voice and where he is calling us. Because when

00:04:13
we neglect our self care it's. We

00:04:17
often find ourselves living in just survival mode. I think we all know what that

00:04:21
feels like, right? We're just too exhausted, we're

00:04:24
distracted or we're really burned out. And

00:04:28
when we get to this point we, we aren't really open or

00:04:32
really aware to be able to notice God's invitations

00:04:36
because we are just, we kind of have those blinders on of just

00:04:39
trying to get through the day. Like we know what

00:04:43
survival mode feels like. It is heavy, it is not a

00:04:47
fun place to be. And because we kind of live in that those with

00:04:50
those blinders on and we're just so focused on like oh if I

00:04:54
could just get through this day. It doesn't leave us open

00:04:58
to really being able to hear God's voice or

00:05:01
notice the invitations that he's putting in in our, in our lives.

00:05:06
And so when we adapt this Christ centered self care

00:05:09
model, it helps us to quiet that noise because

00:05:13
it helps us to restore our energy. It helps

00:05:17
us to clear out that mental clutter and it

00:05:21
calms our emotions. And when we're operating from

00:05:24
that place, not survival mode, but really like

00:05:28
this isn't a word y', all, but I'm just gonna come up with this thrival

00:05:32
mode. I don't think thrival is a word, but it sounds great, doesn't it?

00:05:36
So we're gonna go from survival mode to thrival mode.

00:05:40
That's what Christ centered self care can do for us. We are

00:05:44
again able to clear out that noise. We're energized.

00:05:47
We don't have that, just mental clutter.

00:05:51
And we're operating from a place of being emotionally calm.

00:05:55
And that really allows us to be open to God's invitations.

00:05:59
And so when our minds, our bodies and our spirits are all cared

00:06:03
for, it allows us to better be able to discern

00:06:08
where is God leading you, what gifts is

00:06:12
he entrusting to you and how are you called to

00:06:15
use them? And we can really dive into

00:06:20
some scripture around this. We look at Ephesians, chapter 2, verse

00:06:23
10. You are God's masterpiece created

00:06:27
in Christ Jesus for good works.

00:06:31
When we really put on that mindset of us

00:06:35
being God's masterpiece and caring from ourselves, from

00:06:39
that view that we are precious, that we are

00:06:43
loved, that we are a masterpiece of God's

00:06:47
creation, it really allows us

00:06:50
to care for ourselves in a, in a really

00:06:54
beautiful and divine way. And that allows

00:06:58
us to be open to these works that the Lord is putting on

00:07:01
our hearts. And that caring for yourself

00:07:05
allows you to live out those good, good works with

00:07:09
freedom, with joy and with a sense of

00:07:13
fulfillment. So we can kind of compare and contrast

00:07:16
this, right? We can look at this survival mode versus our thrival

00:07:20
mode, right? So let's think about life without this

00:07:24
Christ centered self care. And I don't think it's really hard for us

00:07:27
to imagine this because I think all of us have experienced this at some

00:07:31
point in our lives. And maybe you're still experiencing it now, right?

00:07:35
But you're running on empty. You are maybe skipping

00:07:39
meals, you are cutting sleep short, you're

00:07:42
ignoring the stress that is wreaking havoc on your body.

00:07:47
You have put your prayer life on the back burner.

00:07:51
Maybe you're feeling stuck or resentful. You have

00:07:55
a lot of self doubt about your worth and you

00:07:59
can't imagine what God could be calling

00:08:02
you to because you just feel so depleted. You feel like

00:08:06
you just can't give anymore. So how

00:08:10
would it be possible for you to even answer God's

00:08:13
calling, right? So now let's look at this from that

00:08:17
Christ centered self care view where we're practicing that care

00:08:21
framework. So you're checking in daily

00:08:24
to see, you know, what is the state of my mind, my body, my soul,

00:08:28
my emotions, you're nourishing yourself consistently

00:08:32
throughout the day. You've been able to set gentle

00:08:35
boundaries, letting your yes mean yes and your no mean no.

00:08:39
Maybe you're journaling. Maybe you're

00:08:42
practicing joyful movement. And you've made space in your life

00:08:46
for prayer. And over time, you're able to

00:08:50
notice that, wow, when I do this, I'm more patient with my

00:08:54
kids. Maybe you have this. This

00:08:58
creativity within you that's been there, but it's just

00:09:01
now being able to come to the surface. So you're able to be more

00:09:05
creative in. In your work, in your play and your ministry and your

00:09:09
giving and your serving. And you are more

00:09:12
open to God's whispers. And so

00:09:16
you. You're. You're just open to whatever the Lord is putting on your

00:09:20
heart. So maybe you begin to dream again. Maybe you start

00:09:23
to rediscover passions and gifts that you had

00:09:27
buried under all of that exhaustion.

00:09:31
And I want to point this out, y'. All, like, the difference

00:09:34
isn't that your life has become easier.

00:09:38
It's just that you've created space for the Lord to work.

00:09:42
And within that space, he has given you room for

00:09:46
clarity and renewal. And so you've opened that

00:09:49
door for God to reveal more of

00:09:53
who he is in your life and what he is calling you to.

00:09:58
Right? So we're shifting from surviving to thriving, right?

00:10:02
Our survival mode to thrival mode. It helps us shift from

00:10:06
reacting to life to being able to respond with purpose

00:10:10
and intention, from being defined by exhaustion

00:10:14
to really defined by

00:10:19
who we are, because we know who we

00:10:23
are from the lens of God. So we are

00:10:26
defined by the fact that he loves us, that we are a beloved child

00:10:30
of God, that we are living his calling and his

00:10:34
purpose and his will on our lives, through our vocations, through

00:10:37
our interactions, through the things that we are doing throughout the

00:10:41
day. And we shift from constantly wondering,

00:10:46
like, who am I? Why would the Lord call me to do this?

00:10:50
To just really resting in,

00:10:54
I am a beloved daughter of God created for

00:10:57
this moment. I just want to pause there, right?

00:11:01
That idea of being created for this moment in time,

00:11:06
that of. Of all of the

00:11:09
timeline of the history of the kingdom of God,

00:11:13
that He created you for this specific moment,

00:11:17
for this specific time, and that he wants you to be open to whatever

00:11:21
he's calling you to do, because he needs you to be open

00:11:24
to that at this specific time. And

00:11:28
taking care of yourself is going to allow you to be open

00:11:32
to that and allow you to be able to

00:11:36
live your best health and your Best wellness. So you

00:11:39
can best serve the Lord in this moment that he needs you to

00:11:43
serve in. So how can we kind of look at this with some

00:11:47
practical steps, Right? So the first one would be using

00:11:51
that care framework for discernment. So during

00:11:54
those check ins you can ask things, you know, where am I feeling drawn?

00:12:00
What is stirring in my heart or in my mind?

00:12:04
Right? God often speaks in those small nudges, those little like

00:12:07
heartstrings that he just keeps tugging on that

00:12:12
gosh, the voice of the enemy keeps telling you to ignore, like how could I

00:12:15
possibly do that? But the Lord is there and he's just, he's,

00:12:19
he's working on your mind and your soul and asking you to

00:12:23
just pray through these moments so you can be open to

00:12:26
discerning his will. Number two, notice

00:12:30
your energy patterns, right? Which self care

00:12:34
practices leave you feeling more alive,

00:12:37
more joyful or more connected? And when you are

00:12:41
aware of these things, it's often pointing you to your

00:12:45
natural God given strengths and passions.

00:12:49
And then I think this one is so important for the

00:12:53
time that we are living in. But creating space for silence,

00:12:57
y', all, our world is so noisy.

00:13:01
You could be in your quiet house and my God

00:13:05
goodness, it is still so noisy from the

00:13:09
societal pressures, from the social media, from the

00:13:13
constant ticker tape of noise that is running through your head.

00:13:16
But create space for silence because in that silence

00:13:20
is where God's going to speak most clearly, most

00:13:24
loudly, where you are most able to really hear

00:13:28
what he is asking you to do. So maybe that's just starting with

00:13:31
building five minutes of silence into your rhythm.

00:13:35
And maybe that looks like it's in the car line pickup. But

00:13:39
instead of reaching for your phone to scroll through social media, you

00:13:43
just sit in that car and you kind of let the engine be the

00:13:46
white noise, right, that's drowning everything else out.

00:13:50
And you just sit for five minutes and let the Lord speak to you.

00:13:56
And then number four, invite others in.

00:14:01
Share your self care journey. Share it with a friend.

00:14:06
Seek out a mentor. I'm available if you need a mentor, a

00:14:09
spiritual director. Because God often uses

00:14:13
community to help us confirm those callings, to help

00:14:17
us see clearly, like mirror back to us

00:14:21
what it is that he is calling us to do, to help us

00:14:25
see ourselves as he sees us, to help us understand

00:14:29
and recognize those strengths and those

00:14:32
passions. And so this week I just want

00:14:36
to challenge you and encourage you to

00:14:39
see your self care practices as more than just

00:14:44
something to do and really

00:14:48
allow it to be a place of discovery and

00:14:51
asking yourself. What is God revealing to me when I am

00:14:55
rested and nourished and renewed?

00:14:59
And how might these moments of care be pointing me toward my unique

00:15:03
calling? You can journal those

00:15:06
answers. You can bring them into prayer. You can

00:15:10
email me those answers karaharatrokta.com

00:15:14
and we can start a conversation. Remember, your vocation

00:15:17
doesn't have to be this grand or flashy thing, but

00:15:21
it really starts to reveal itself and begin with

00:15:25
just faithfulness in your everyday life

00:15:29
in doing the things that you are normally doing

00:15:33
for his, for his glory, with his perspective

00:15:36
shining on each of the things that you are doing and allowing it just to

00:15:40
be a place of of constant conversation and constant prayer with

00:15:44
Him. Remember, Christ

00:15:47
centered self care doesn't just refresh you, but it can

00:15:51
really help you uncover the masterpiece that God created you

00:15:55
to be. That you are worthy of being cared

00:15:59
for and that by tending to your whole self, you make room

00:16:02
for his voice, his dreams and his mission in your life.

00:16:09
I thank you so much for joining me this week. I

00:16:13
hope that you have a beautiful and blessed week. And

00:16:17
guys, I'm serious if you want to talk about self care since me an email

00:16:21
and we can set up some time to chat about it. It's I

00:16:24
think one of the most beautiful and practical ways that we can

00:16:28
really shift our wellness and

00:16:32
really get to that place of thriving and not just surviving.

00:16:36
So I love to talk about this. Shoot me an email

00:16:39
karaharatrokta.com we can set up some time to talk

00:16:42
about self care. I mentioned, you know, if you are looking for

00:16:46
for a mentor, I am available for that. I love

00:16:50
mentoring moms in this transition phase as we're kind of like

00:16:54
trying to figure out, you know, how to better take care of ourselves. What is

00:16:58
this mission that we are being called to? How are things looking different in each

00:17:01
of these phases of motherhood? So shoot me

00:17:05
an email if you if you want to talk. I'd be happy to set up

00:17:08
some time with you. But again, I hope you have a beautiful and blessed week.

00:17:12
I as always, thank you for joining me here on the podcast. I look

00:17:15
forward to this every week and I

00:17:19
just remember beauty held as a seed, beauty shared as a flower.

00:17:23
Y', all, this is your time to bloom. God created

00:17:26
you in this moment to be able to bloom, to come

00:17:30
into that full health and beauty so you can boldly

00:17:34
and confidently live for the Lord. That is my challenge.

00:17:37
That is my mission to you. I will continue to

00:17:41
pray for you. Please pray for me until next week.

00:17:45
Take care and we'll talk soon. Bye.
