Ep. 74 Not Sure What's Next for You? Discover Your Loaves & Fishes

Have you ever found yourself in the quiet of your kitchen—coffee in hand, dishes in the sink—wondering, "What now?" Maybe your days finally have that white space you used to crave… but instead of clarity, you feel lost in the "onlys." Only a few hours to yourself. Only a small passion. Only one dream that feels too late.

In this kickoff episode of our new series, Writing the Next Chapter in Middle Motherhood we're asking one powerful question: 👉 What's already in your basket?

And no, I'm not talking about your grocery list—I'm talking about your gifts, your passions, your hard-won wisdom, and all that God has already placed in your hands.

Let's walk through how to find clarity by looking at what you ALREADY have, and how Jesus can take your "only" and multiply it for something beautiful in this next chapter.

Inspired by the miracle of the loaves and fishes (Matthew 14:13–21), we're exploring how God multiplies our "only" when we offer it back to Him. This isn't just for moms—this is for all of us navigating change, identity shifts, and a holy longing for something more. Your gifts, talents, and passions ARE your "loaves and fishes." Even if they seem ordinary, they are exactly what God wants to use.

Let's reflect together, take inventory, and stop overlooking the ordinary gifts God wants to use.

💡 In this episode, we:

🙋‍♀️ Normalize the identity shift that comes with kids in school or life transitions

🧺 Ask honest questions about what's already in our hands

📖 Explore what "loaves and fishes" look like in our real lives

✨ Reframe the lie of "only" and embrace what's more than enough in God's hands

📝 Walk through a life inventory—health, faith, friendships, finances, and more

🙏 Invite God to bless, break, and multiply what we offer

00:02:42
to Bloom, where every day is a sacred invitation to

00:02:46
thrive. Hey there. Welcome back to the

00:02:49
Nourish to Bloom podcast. So happy to be spending some time here

00:02:53
with you this week. So this time of year always

00:02:57
gets kind of, I don't know, I feel like we all get a little bit

00:03:00
antsy where we're starting to crave the start of school

00:03:04
because I think we, along with our kids, are maybe craving

00:03:08
a little bit more structure. Now. Summer is great and, and I love it,

00:03:11
but I think we're just starting to get to just that little bit of antsiness,

00:03:15
right? And what I found and this happened to many years

00:03:19
ago with my youngest son when he was going off to kindergarten. And I

00:03:23
suddenly was now kind of like in that first phase of

00:03:26
empty nesting where my days, like

00:03:30
the hours between, you know, like 8:00am and two

00:03:33
were completely empty. I was no longer having to

00:03:37
parent kind of all day long. And so it kind of hit

00:03:41
me and took me by surprise. And there's a little bit of like, okay, well

00:03:45
now what do I do with all this time? Like, it's not necessarily enough time

00:03:48
to go out and get a full time job, but is a career

00:03:52
something I'm considering or just who am I

00:03:55
now that, like, I kind of have a little bit of this wiggle room and

00:03:59
what do I want to spend this time doing? And this

00:04:02
really bloomed into what I call this phase of middle

00:04:05
motherhood. And I see so many women go through this

00:04:09
transition. And really, it's not the only transition that what we're going

00:04:12
to talk to about today applies to. If you're a

00:04:16
woman who is maybe an empty nester, right? Your kids are

00:04:19
adults and they're off in college or they're grown and

00:04:23
you kind of are still feeling the same thing of like, I'm not really sure

00:04:26
who I am in this, in this chapter. I don't really know

00:04:30
what I should do with my free time. If you are just in any

00:04:34
sort of transition, then this series is really going

00:04:37
to be for you. Because that's what we're starting off today is this four part

00:04:41
series called Loaves and Writing the Next chapter

00:04:45
in Middle Motherhood. But like I said, if you're not in that middle motherhood

00:04:48
phase, that does not mean that this episode is not for you.

00:04:52
But when I went through this in my own personal life, I

00:04:56
found Some really great tools to kind of help me

00:05:00
navigate that. I myself went through coaching and worked with

00:05:03
somebody, not necessarily in anything that was specific to Middle

00:05:07
Motherhood, but just doing some coaching to discover kind of who I was,

00:05:11
what my interests were, kind of uncovering some of my gifts and my

00:05:14
talents. And from there I really took this and,

00:05:18
and for a while created a program and worked with women

00:05:22
called Middle Motherhood Ment Mentorship and really walked

00:05:25
this and guided this journey with women who were in that transition

00:05:29
and offered them coaching and some structured

00:05:32
activities to kind of help them navigate this transition. And that's kind

00:05:36
of what we're going to be talking about here today because I see it so

00:05:39
many times, especially with women who have, you know,

00:05:43
maybe stayed at home once they had kids and now their kids have

00:05:47
grown and they're entering school age and they find this free time.

00:05:51
There's a little bit of an identity crisis that goes on there. There's a little

00:05:54
bit of just uncertainty about, you know, what your day is going to look

00:05:58
like. And, and maybe you are starting to feel this kind of like

00:06:01
pull in, this tug at your heart to, to do something more,

00:06:05
to use that time for something impactful or

00:06:08
meaningful and you just don't know what that is. Well, that's what I'm going to

00:06:12
help you with starting this series and what we're going to dive into

00:06:16
today. Because the truth is, I think many of us have looked at our

00:06:20
life and had these thoughts of, you know, I don't even know who I am

00:06:23
anymore, or, you know, maybe you, you're just feeling stuck

00:06:27
and this whole series. And I,

00:06:30
and I thank the Lord for this inspiration. As I was reading scripture today,

00:06:35
it was all about the loaves and the fishes. And

00:06:39
it was like, I love it when the Lord, like I've said before, puts these

00:06:42
things right in front of me. Because it was just that answer of like, okay,

00:06:46
this is what I want to base this whole series

00:06:50
on is this piece of Scripture, Matthew 14, 13,

00:06:53
21. Because this whole series is grounded in that

00:06:57
miracle that we often hear about when Jesus fed the 5.

00:07:01
But we're going to pause on some of these small details

00:07:05
that sets this whole miracle in motion. So in verse 17,

00:07:09
the disciples come to Jesus and say, we have here only

00:07:12
five loaves and two fishes. Only

00:07:19
that word speaks volumes because I think it's how

00:07:23
we often see what we have too. Only a few hours

00:07:26
of free time, only a part time job,

00:07:30
only a small dream, only a

00:07:34
quiet whisper of a passion that hasn't been nurtured in years.

00:07:40
Only feeling like you have this very little thing to offer

00:07:44
and how could it possibly be enough? It's probably maybe what the

00:07:47
disciples were thinking, right? They tell Jesus we only have

00:07:51
these five loaves and two fish. And they're looking out at this crowd and they're

00:07:55
like, this is all we have. This is all that we can, we can give.

00:07:59
How are we going to meet this need? And I think we

00:08:02
can sometimes do that ourselves too, right? Maybe we have this

00:08:06
dream or this passion or this mission, or we want to see this change in

00:08:10
the world. And we, we look at ourselves and we look at what we can

00:08:13
bring and we say, well, I only have this.

00:08:18
But what we see in the scripture is that Jesus doesn't dismiss

00:08:22
their only he takes it

00:08:26
and he blesses it, he uses it and then

00:08:29
he multiplies it.

00:08:33
And so when you're in this middle motherhood transition,

00:08:37
we have all of these feelings stirring up, right? We, we see

00:08:41
ourselves maybe as this only one dimensional

00:08:45
because for many of us, our sense of identity has been

00:08:48
deeply tied to being mom. And like rightfully

00:08:52
so and beautifully so, right? It's, it's, it's our holy and beautiful

00:08:56
calling to be a spouse, to be a mother. It's our primary vocation.

00:09:01
But that doesn't stop that. Maybe we, we feel this urge or this

00:09:04
pull or this desire to offer something a little more.

00:09:09
Because what happens when the diapers and the nap schedules turn into

00:09:13
drop offs and school lunches and sudd.

00:09:16
You're seeing a whole lot of space. And maybe it's a

00:09:20
little bit scary, but maybe it's also space to

00:09:24
wonder, who am I when I'm not

00:09:27
actively parenting all day?

00:09:31
What do I even want anymore? How do

00:09:35
I begin dreaming again when maybe I've been in survival

00:09:39
mode for so long? And that's really what today is

00:09:43
all about. It's about taking inventory of what's already in our

00:09:46
basket. What is that maybe only we're

00:09:50
offering to the Lord. So like I said, I had,

00:09:54
I have a middle motherhood mentorship program. And in that

00:09:57
method, the first step that we always go through is evaluating where you are

00:10:01
right now. And this isn't about judgment, it's really just

00:10:05
about gaining awareness. Because I don't think we often stop to look

00:10:08
at where we are. We may want something different, we may something

00:10:12
may want something more, we may want this change, but we haven't even

00:10:16
stopped to pause to look at what things look like right

00:10:20
now. And so we're going to Go

00:10:23
through this. And if you have a journal or if you need to come back

00:10:26
and listen to this with a journal, please do so. But we're going to walk

00:10:29
together through it. And so when we do this, a couple of areas, we go

00:10:33
through a couple of areas of your life. And so we're going to look at

00:10:36
health and wellness, your marriage or your relationships,

00:10:41
finances, career or purpose,

00:10:44
your emotional well being, your friendships, and then

00:10:48
your faith in your spiritual life. And so within each of these different

00:10:52
categories of your life, I want you to stop and reflect

00:10:56
and ask yourself for each one, what's going well

00:10:59
here? Where are the areas that you feel like you're

00:11:03
thriving, that you're flourishing,

00:11:07
that like, you would rate this a 10 or that you're seeing God

00:11:10
working in that area? And then what

00:11:14
feels unsettled or unclear? Maybe

00:11:18
you have some anxiety or some worry in a particular area of your

00:11:22
life. Maybe it's a place where you feel like you

00:11:25
really need the Lord to come and work and move.

00:11:30
Maybe it's an area that is an unanswered

00:11:33
prayer. And then

00:11:37
what areas of your life do you feel most alive?

00:11:40
Do you feel motivated? That what areas energize

00:11:44
you? And then what are the areas that you feel

00:11:48
maybe disconnected or

00:11:52
fatigued or worn out or weary?

00:11:56
And so as you do this, you may notice some patterns or

00:12:00
even just kind of asking some of these questions, you may have had these things

00:12:03
immediately pop up of like, okay, yeah, I feel

00:12:07
this, or yeah, I'm really excited about this.

00:12:11
And so you may notice some pattern patterns, or you just

00:12:14
get a general sense of where you feel fulfilled

00:12:18
and where maybe you're craving more purpose.

00:12:23
So this all ties into now thinking about your gifts

00:12:27
and your talents and your passions, these things that come

00:12:31
naturally to you or excite you or kind of light you up.

00:12:35
So reflecting on more about the

00:12:39
loaves and fishes, right, that you're going to bring to the Lord, that you

00:12:43
could offer to the Lord that starts to reveal those gifts, those talents

00:12:46
and those passions. Your loaves and fishes are those gifts,

00:12:50
talents and passions. So when you think about it that way,

00:12:55
and you're trying to uncover maybe what these gifts and talents and passions

00:12:58
are, what do people come to you for advice or help

00:13:02
with, or what's something that

00:13:06
you could talk about for hours with somebody, a subject

00:13:09
or a problem or a population,

00:13:13
a group of people that you would really like to

00:13:17
help or that you could just talk more about,

00:13:21
or what brings you joy, even if you haven't made time

00:13:25
for it lately because These are the loaves and the

00:13:28
fishes that God has placed in your hands. And

00:13:32
you may be looking at them, and they may seem really small or

00:13:36
very ordinary to you, but I want you to know that they are exactly

00:13:40
what God wants to use in this season.

00:13:46
Jesus didn't ask the disciples to have enough. He just

00:13:49
asked them to bring them what they have. And that's

00:13:53
all he's asking of you, too. I want you to know that if you're in

00:13:57
that transition, if you find yourself and you're, like, nodding your head, like, I'm

00:14:01
100% in that middle motherhood phase, you don't have to have it

00:14:04
all figured out to begin the next chapter.

00:14:08
It's really about just being willing to bring what's in your basket,

00:14:12
to bring your loaves and fishes to Him.

00:14:16
And that looks like bringing it all. Our confusion, our

00:14:20
dreams, our doubts, our time, our passions,

00:14:24
and then being able to lay it before him,

00:14:28
and then inviting him to bless it, to break it open,

00:14:32
and to use it in ways that, gosh, we couldn't even imagine,

00:14:38
right? So the challenge that I want you to really focus on for this next

00:14:41
week is to just really reflect on what is in your

00:14:44
basket right now. What are you recognizing as your

00:14:48
loaves and fishes? What gifts,

00:14:52
desires, or time do you have in this season

00:14:56
to offer? And where might God be inviting

00:14:59
you to use them in a new or deeper way?

00:15:04
Because next week we're going to talk about what happens after we bring our

00:15:07
basket, how to look up and let go so

00:15:11
God can begin to multiply what we are offering.

00:15:15
We're really going to focus on discernment and vision in this

00:15:18
next episode. But for now, I want you to know that

00:15:22
if you are just aware that you are in that middle motherhood season, that

00:15:26
you're like, yeah, I am feeling these things. I really maybe don't know

00:15:30
who I am or what the Lord is calling me to in this

00:15:33
next chapter. Maybe you're scared of the blank space

00:15:37
in your calendar because your kids are in school. I want you to know that

00:15:40
you're not behind. You're not late. You don't have to

00:15:44
force anything. You're exactly where you're supposed to be,

00:15:49
and your only is more than enough when we place it in God's

00:15:52
hands. And so, first, if this episode

00:15:56
resonated with you, I invite you to share it with another woman who might need

00:15:59
it. And then if you want to dive deeper into this,

00:16:03
if you want to really get into this,

00:16:07
taking inventory, understanding what your loaves and fishes are

00:16:11
I have put a free middle motherhood planner

00:16:15
like a paper planning worksheet exercise in

00:16:19
the show notes that you can go through. But what

00:16:23
I'd really love for you to do is grab a free session with me,

00:16:26
a middle motherhood vision session. So in that

00:16:30
session we're going to walk through and do a life audit. Take a really, really

00:16:33
deep inventory of where you are in your life. What

00:16:37
are the areas that maybe you're seeking some change or you want to,

00:16:41
you know, make some habit changes or explore a little bit

00:16:45
more. Maybe you've had this dream or this desire, this passion that

00:16:49
you've been waiting for this season of life to start exploring.

00:16:53
In this session we're going to take those and we're going to look at them

00:16:55
and then we're going to start to really again uncover those loaves and

00:16:59
fishes and help you put a plan together on what does this

00:17:03
goal look like and what are the next steps that you can take so you

00:17:06
be can begin with writing this next chapter,

00:17:10
your next chapter in God's history kingdom. So

00:17:14
your three things to do share the episode with another

00:17:17
woman who might need this. Number two, grab that middle

00:17:21
motherhood planner. And number three, book your free middle motherhood

00:17:24
vision session with me. You can find the links for all of those in the

00:17:28
show notes. But remember, until the next time,

00:17:32
keep offering, keep identifying. Keep taking your loaves and

00:17:36
fishes to him. He's not done writing your story.

00:17:39
This is an exciting new page turner of

00:17:43
your next chapter. And remember, beauty held is the seed,

00:17:47
beauty shared is the flower. It is your time to bloom.

00:17:50
Thanks again for joining me. I hope you have a beautiful and blessed week.

00:17:54
Can't wait to go into this series with you. I hope to

00:17:58
see so many of you in this free session. Don't forget to

00:18:01
grab that and until then, I will talk to you soon. Bye.
